Barrington: New Loan Program For Improved Water Storage Coming Soon

A loan program to help homeowners in Barrington with their water supply will soon be rolled out.

Municipal council passed first reading of a by-law last night that will grant up to $10,000 to homeowners looking to improve their well or add an alternate water system.

The money will be paid back through taxes over a ten year period.

Water levels in Barrington were at record lows last year, and about 400 families had dry wells.

CAO Rob Frost says things have improved this year.

“We are still in a rain deficit situation, year over year. As of right now, things are dry but there is some rain in the forecast. We are hoping to continue getting some rain here and there.”

He says the municipality is still about 100 millimeters short of typical rainfall levels.

The by-law will go to second reading next month, and if that passes, the process should begin in September.
