A full house greeted candidates running for Lunenburg town council last night.
The town set up the event to allow residents to hear from the four people campaigning to represent them.
Linda Blumenthal, Kevin Corkum, David Penney and Matt Risser took turns answering questions.
They all acknowledged the need for councillors to reflect the wishes of their constituents and to be fiscally responsible while meeting the needs of the community.
David Penney says the town needs to support small business.
“We need to rip off the red tape and we need to roll out the red carpet because they are the ones who are going to be the economic saver for this.”
Matt Risser says council needs to work as a team while maintaining their individual opinions by using a one voice principle.
Kevin Corkum thinks council could move faster when making decisions.
“I know the wheels of bureaucracy tend to drag slow. So I’d like to be an agent for speeding that up a little bit.”
Linda Blumenthal feels the town is at a crossroads.
“I see Lunenburg on a track right now that, we’re growing. And this is a time in Lunenburg’s life where we can go one way or the other.”
“This means that you have to have respect for the process and you have to respect the majority view.”
An advance poll will be held today at the Lunenburg Auditorium from noon until 8pm.
A new councillor will be chosen by special election on Saturday.
