A pair of Lunenburg county mayors are looking to the federal government for help with the port of Bridgewater.
David Walker and Don Downe wrote a letter to Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau and other members of parliament for help removing three ships at the port.
They say the derelict vessels affect their short and long-term vision of the LaHave River.
Walker says they want to see change.
“The desire to have the port become more a complement of the marina and Shipyard’s Landing, as opposed to what our residents believe and are telling us is more of an eyesore.”
The Cape Rouge and Cormorant have sank in recent years.
Both mayors indicate they want the vessels removed.
Meanwhile the Port Authority is hoping the federal government takes notice of three ships stuck in Bridgewater.
Port of Bridgewater President, Rick Welsford, says the HMCS Cormorant, The Hannah and Cape Rouge are all moored without any crew watching over them.
“It’s by default up to the port to try and keep an eye on them and to call somebody if something is going wrong with them.”
Welsford says HMCS Cormorant’s ownership is unclear and is before the Federal Court of Canada.
He wonders if the Minister of Transport will be able to respond or wait until the matter is no longer before the court.
