Brownies In Lunenburg Warm Up The Community

The spirit of the season is coming alive in downtown Lunenburg.

The second Lunenburg Brownie’s Giving Tree is up in the park on Lincoln Street between Dots and Loops and Toonies and Loonies.

Brownie leader, Jackie Belliveau said when she heard about the woman who wrapped coats around poles in Halifax, she was inspired to do something similar with her own Brownie pack in Lunenburg.

“The girls were really excited about the idea when I told them about it. Within one day of putting the word out we got garbage bags full of mittens, scarves and hats ready for the tree,” said Belliveau.

The girls have been sorting the donations, putting them into waterproof baggies and tagging them with sizes.

“We punch a hole in the baggies so we can hang them on the tree,” said Belliveau.

People in need of warm mitts, hats and scarves are encouraged to take the donated items.

“We’re also looking for Christmas tree lights to illuminate the trees around the Giving Tree to draw attention to it.”

Donations can be dropped off at Caico-Mae Clothiers at 138 Montague Street in Lunenburg.

“We would really like to make the Giving Tree an annual event in the town,” said Belliveau.

“It’s a nice way to warm up to the spirit of the season.”
