Demand On The Rise For Food Bank Inter-Church

Demand is growing for the Food Bank in Bridgewater.

This time of year can be particularly challenging to those living on the poverty line.

Board member, Alison Low said it makes sense that usage increases now.

Besides putting food on the table, Low said they’re also in need of some extras.

“Baking supplies, diapers, especially for older children, hygiene products. Things that are very costly that we just cannot provice,” said Low.

Seniors in particular are feeling the pinch at this gift giving time of year.

“A lot of time we have grandparents coming to us who can’t afford a gift for their grandchild. It’s not about the gift, it’s about the pride,” said Low.

Last year there were over 6,716 visits to the food bank, nearly 1,000 more than the year before.

Low says that number will likely rise as more unemployed people try to find work in Bridgewater.
