The 5th Annual Tri-County Firefighter’s Family Fun Day is coming up later this month.
It will be held on Saturday, August 26th from 10:00 to 3:00 at the Mariners Centre.
The event is free and is put on and attended by fire departments from throughout the Tri-Counties.
One of the organizers, Yarmouth volunteer firefighter, Stewart Deveau, says the 5-hour event is jammed packed with activities and displays including a real favourite for kids.
“It’s the fire truck ride around the Mariners Centre. We have water games where they get to use real fire hoses on fake fires. One of the new things this year is the firefighters combat challenge for kids.”
Here is a full list of activities and displays planned for the Tri County Fire Fighters Family Fun Day:
-Fire truck display and show & shine competition.
-Display and information booths from different departments where those attending can not only learn about participating departments and their members they will also have an opportunity to see what it is like to dress up in bunker gear.
-Vehicle extrication demonstrations, using the Jaws of Life, by members of the Wood’s Harbour/Shag Harbour Volunteer Fire Departments.
-Water games for the kids (young and old) using actual fire hoses.
-Bouncy Slide
-Fire extinguisher use demonstrations, fire truck rides, dunk booth, free ice cream from the members of the Lake Vaughn Volunteer FD, hot dogs and pop.
-Static displays by members of the Yarmouth 84th. Field Battalion Militia.
-A Cormorant Helicopter by Department of National Defence as well as a helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources. (participation of the helicopters is obviously dependent on if they are not required for forest fires and or rescue missions.)
-A children’s Firefighter’s Combat Challenge.
They will also be selling tickets on a real fire hydrant with all proceeds of ticket sales going to Yarmouth’s Firefighters Museum.
-A sneaker drive where new and good used sneakers will be collected which will allow less fortunate children to have decent footwear to begin school with. Participating fire departments will have their names entered with the winning department receiving the collected footwear for distribution to local schools in their district.
As of Tuesday Aug 8, they were still waiting for confirmation from EHS on their participation.
