A young girl from Dayspring has tested water in Lunenburg Harbour and the results aren’t positive.
Thirteen year-old Stella Bowles says she decided to test the water after a tour operator encountered brown sludge in the harbour.
Bowles says the samples were taken with sterilized containers and ran through a filter funnel before being put into an incubator for 36 hours.
“I took four samples and they were all really, really disgusting. At level 70, you shouldn’t swim and at level 175 you shouldn’t get the water on your skin. It was so bad we couldn’t count it.”
Bowles says within 12 hours the samples were showing well over levels of 1,000.
“Mom and I were curious and had a look. The cards were so blue.”
The blue indicates high levels of bacteria.
She hopes the test raises awareness about how unsafe the water is.
