A Yarmouth County village will receive the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award.
The honour is going to West Pubnico for its exemplary civic and community spirit.
The area was chosen by a selection committee based criteria like power, strength and diversity.
Charlene LeBlanc, Community Development Officer for the Municipality of Argyle nominated West Pubnico after the success of the Chase the Ace event last year.
LeBlanc says the award is well deserved.
“I’m overjoyed with the news. I’m so proud of West Pubnico. It means the world to me, I’m from there. I’m a big promoter of the community and we have tons of community spirit. We deserve an award for sure.”
LeBlanc says the vibrant Acadian culture, strong citizen involvement and flair for innovation make West Pubnico a natural choice.
“The history, the Acadians, we’re strong willed and hard working. We have great areas like the parish and the museum. We really embrace our culture. It means a lot to me and I know it will mean a lot to the residents of West Pubnico. Congratulations!”
She says a community celebration will take place in October with Lt.-Gov. Arthur LeBlanc in attendance.
He will present an original piece of NovaScotian Crystal etched with a representation of West Pubnico’s story.
Big Tancook Island in Lunenburg County will also receive the award.
