The Shelburne County Lobster Pot Lottery is celebrating one year of supporting local charities.
Organizers say it was a successful inaugural year thanks to the support and generosity of Shelburne County residents.
This year the lottery supported the Roseway Hospital Auxiliary and the Hospital Foundation, , Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion, Shelburne County Senior Services, and Sou’West Nova Transit.
Committee member Brenda Acker says money raised from the lottery stays in the community and benefits local residents.
“It’s a good way for people to spend their money. We’ve renewed our license and we’re continuing on.”
Just over $23,000 was raised in the first year, with half of the income going to the weekly winners and the remaining proceeds being divided among the five benefiting non-profit organizations.
The jackpot averaged $250 a week, with the highest pot to date amounting to $1,840 after several rollovers.
