Balish Wins Special Election For Spot on Lockeport Town Council

An open seat on Lockeport town council will be filled by Kent Balish.

He is the unofficial winner of Saturday night’s special election after receiving 122 votes.

Balish received 67 more votes than runner-up finisher Howard Roszel.

Jill Malloy finished third with 48 votes.

Roughly 50% of eligible voters cast their ballot through two advanced polls and on election day.

The special election was needed following the death of former deputy mayor and town councillor Lonnie Townsend on May 22.

The official ballot count is Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Balish is expected to be sworn-in as councillor during the town’s September 11 meeting.
