Judge To Decide Fate Of Petite Riviere Elementary

Two groups are appearing before a judge today to challenge the closure of a South Shore school.

The Municipality of Lunenburg is joining the Greater Petite Area Community Association to appeal South Shore Regional School Board’s decision to close Petite Riviere Elementary School.

Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson is concerned about the impact of handing over empty buildings to the municipality.

The Greater Petite Area Community Association has argued closing schools in community hubs has an impact on the survival of rural Nova Scotia.

The school board made a motion in March to close Petite Riviere school by July 2018.

The two groups are hoping the judge will overturn that decision.
