Seven Mile Lake Fire Reaches 240 Hectares

Ground and air crews are back on scene today tackling what is now a 240 hectare forest fire in Seven Mile Lake.

Four air tankers from New Brunswick and Newfoundland have returned along with DNR helicopters.

Two air tankers from Quebec have also been brought in today.

Operation Manager Jim Rudderham says the fire is proving to be a tough fight.

“This fire is proving to be extremely difficult because of terrain and the way it has burned and the extreme fire weather conditions we have right now.”

The fire has been burning out of control since Thursday.

A section of Highway 8 remains closed due to water bombing activity.

The south end barricade is at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site with local traffic to Mersy River Chalet.

A barricade at the north end remains at Virginia road with local traffic to View Lake.

Rudderham says two other fires in Maitland Bridge and Greenfield are still burning but have been successfully contained.

Meanwhile, people who are looking to donate food or water to help the firefighters can do so.
