Businesses in Queens are looking for workers.
Barry Tomalin is President of the South Queens Chamber of Commerce and he says there just aren’t enough people for the number of positions available.
The shortage includes everything from customer service, drivers and call centres.
Tomalin says the jobs are attractive.
“We’ve seen a significant number of people that are above minimum wage with benefits as part of these programs.”
Tomalin says the message is simple.
“We’re really making the decision that we would like to just support the local businesses and put the word out that we’re in business down here and we’re looking for people.”
Tomalin says the area is a great place to live but has an aging population and needs to attract younger workers.
