A long time Lunenburg resident and local cab driver for many years, is speaking out about the condition of some dirt roads throughout Lunenburg County and much of the South Shore.
Bobby Mercer knows every inch of Lunenburg County like the back of his hand and treats the roads as if they’re his workplace.
He agrees that some roads are in terrible shape.
“I”m putting over 100km on a year on all kinds of roads; what would happen of some kid got sick or hurt or something and they had to get them to the hospital? They’d have to airlift them out,” says Mercer, in reaction to our earlier story on the deteriorating condition of Falkenham Road.
Mercer agrees that something has to be done sooner to repair such roads and even goes as far as to call it a hazardous work environment.
Meanwhile, Lunenburg West MLA Mark Furey says his office had not been made aware that the conditions were that bad on Falkenham Road. He says now that he’s been made aware, the road will get the attention it needs to make it safer and more drivable.
“I wasn’t aware of the circumstances or condition of the road to be quite honest with you, we had not received a call at our constituency office, obviously we know about it now,” Furey tells Acadia News. “The graders are now out and on our gravel roads and I anticipate that work will continue and Falkenham Road will be one of those roads that’s addressed.”
In the meantime, Lunenburg Taxi Driver Bob Mercer will continue to make his voice heard, bringing attention to local roads in dire need of a makeover in the name of safety.
