A Reminder About Wildfires

As the weather gets warmer and the ground conditions become that much drier, comes a warning from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Provincial fire crews are currently battling wildfires in Yarmouth County and in Cole Harbour and officials are sending out a message of awareness, especially surrounding the weather and conditions around you.

“It’s very important that everyone check daily if they decide that they want to have an outdoor fire or domestic fire, they need to make sure that it’s safe to do so,” says Jim Rudderham, Fire Management Supervisor with the Nova Scotia Ministry of Natural Resources.

Rudderham says it really doesn’t take much for a wildfire to ignite and grow out of control very quickly.

Provincial fire crews are ready and able to tackle a wildfire at any given time, should one break out.

The best line of defence is education and prevention.
