Counterfeit Bills in Southwestern Nova Scotia

Over the past 4 weeks, RCMP across Southwestern Nova Scotia have been investigating reports of counterfeit money popping up throughout Lunenburg, Kings, Annapolis and Yarmouth Counties.

In a news release issued over the weekend, police say they’ve had numerous reports of fraudulent / bogus bills being used across this part of the province.

“Passing counterfeit money is a crime, and again, we’re asking people to be diligent in checking those bills upon receipt at your business,” says RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchinson.

Some of these fake bills have come into the hands of business owners and as a result, they’re asking employers to educate their employees on what to look for.

“In these cases, the symbols that are indicated in the photos in our release, are not supposed to be there; others have been defaced where things have been marked on or scraped off the bills,” adds Cpl. Hutchinson.

Anyone who feels they may have come into contact or possession of counterfeit money is asked to call police immediately, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
