There’s no question that tourism plays a big part in the Town of Mahone Bay and that’s why Council is looking to take advantage of a new pilot program offered through the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs.
The Beautification and Streetscaping Pilot Program provides a level of funding in an effort to help municipalities build on tourism by improving the appearance and attractiveness of the town.
At a recent Council Meeting (June 12th, 2018), a motion was carried for the Town to submit an application; they’ll be seeking $30,000 to spruce up the Gazebo in the heart of downtown.
“It is in need of repair, and so this will give us the opportunity to get some assistance to make those maintenance upgrades to the gazebo,” says Mayor David Devenne.
The Gazebo, now 21 years old having been finished in Spring of 1997, is a central focal point used for a wide variety of activities including live outdoor concerts and even weddings just to name a few.
The Town of Mahone Bay will also be seeking some funding to assist with more directional signage in and around the downtown area, to better direct tourists and visitors to town attractions.
“Signage that will direct folks to shops, or to the playground or to the swimming pool as opposed to a specific store or even type of store,” adds Mayor Devenne.
The deadline for application submissions to the Nova Scotia Beautification & Streetscaping Pilot Program is June 22nd, 2018.
