Nova Scotians Will Soon Enjoy Big Beers At Small Breweries

The caps are off for craft brewers.

Starting July first small breweries with a hospitality license will no longer be restricted to serving just four-ounce samples.

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation announced the changes last week.

Co-owner of Firkinstein Brewing Adam Sarty says he and his partner Devin Fraser had already upgraded to a beverage license to provide pints but are glad to see the changes.

But he’d like to see them go further.

“So now they’re going to see the other change that need [to happen], and maybe one of them is the possibility of guest taps. Even a limited amount of guest taps in the hospitality room.”

Sarty’s belief in allowing other breweries beers to be served in his is the reason he will be staying with his beverage room license for now.

The changes also means the establishments will now be subject to liquor inspectors and staff must take the safe service course.

Sarty hopes NSLC will continue to encourage the growth of craft breweries.
