The shelves at the Bridgewater food Bank are a little fuller now thanks to a group of local volunteers.
This past Saturday, June 16th, 2018 5 volunteers took to the streets on the south side of the LaHave River to collect donations, and the results were fantastic, according to organizer Gaston Jolicoeur.
“People were kind, people were welcoming, people gave us lots of food, we had a small truck and were able to fill it,” says Jolicoeur.
Not only were people generous with the food donations, many also dug deep into their pockets and gave cash donations toward the cause.
While the exact number is not yet known, Jolicoeur estimated they received anywhere between three and five hundred dollars in cash donations.
“Many, many generous people left the donations (of food) on their balconies (porches) and many people besides the food, they gave us a generous gift with money so several hundred dollars was raised for the food bank,” adds Jolicoeur.
Jolicoeur hopes to do another food drive sometime in the fall or just before Christmas, and he hopes they can get more volunteers to take part.
