Keji To Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day

This Thursday, June 21st, 2018, is National Indigenous Peoples Day and to help celebrate, the folks at Kejimkujik National Park are holding a day long event full of various activities for all ages.

Visitor Experience Manager, Sophie Borcoman, says every year they typically get a lot of people coming out to take part in the various activities.

Activities for this year include medicinal tea and bread tasting, survival skills demonstrations, and more but that’s not all.

“One of the most wonderful things is the birch bark canoe building demo with our Master Canoe Builder, Todd Labrador, who will be demonstrating traditional Mi’Kmaw canoe skills,” says Borcoman.

Borcoman invites everyone to come out, celebrate the Mi’Kmaw heritage in the area and find out why they call it their cultural landscape.

Thursday (June 21st, 2018) also marks the Summer Solstice or the first day of summer.
