A jubilant mood as Lunenburgers worked together to move the first few books into the new library.
Students from Bluenose Academy along with many community members formed a line from the existing library to its new location at the Lunenburg Academy.

Jeff Mercer with South Shore Public Libraries sees the children’s involvement in the move as symbolic.
“Once we knew it was in the school year, we called the school and said hey, we’d like to tie the kids in because this used to be a school and now it’s a library. and they said, yeah, we’d be thrilled to take part.”
Mercer estimates the group moved upwards of 500 books.
He says there is still work to do, but expects to be fully prepared for the library’s grand opening on July 28.
Lunenburg’s Mayor, Rachel Bailey is excited to watch the revitalization of the iconic landmark.
“It’s wonderful to see this beautiful building which has stood for excellence in education for over a century – to watch it come back to life.”
The Academy is already home to the Lunenburg Academy of Musical Performance and several other tenants.
She is glad to see the old building become an arts hub for the town and looks forward to its evolution as it takes its place in the community.
