Beach Bus Pilot Project On The Way Through United Way

For people who live in areas like New Germany, getting out to Rissers Beach for a day of sun and fun may not be that easy, especially for low income or no-vehicle families.

But thanks to the United Way of Lunenburg County, a new pilot program will see a Beach Bus run from New Germany, to Bridgewater and then on to Rissers Beach.

The trial run will happen on Saturday, July 14th, 2018.

United Way Coordinator and Bridgewater Town Councillor, Michael Graves, says it’s all about giving people opportunities.

“What we do is we raise money in the local community and then we take that money and we re-invest it into numerous programs, and one of those programs this year is the beach bus,” says Graves.

Graves tells Acadia News he got the idea while at a conference in Cape Breton, NS.

“I thought to myself, they did it there, how can we do it here and how can we make it work here in Lunenburg County,” says Graves, adding, “with the beach bus, people would obviously be able to get on the beach bus and go to the beach, have a fun day and come home all happy and tired, is what we’re hoping for.”

The United Way is kicking in $900 toward the cost of the bus.

Graves hopes to see the Beach Bus become a regular thing.
