Premier Preparing For Fall Sitting

Premier Stephen McNeil has been busy ahead of the opening of the legislature this week.

He recently returned from trip to China where he worked to expand Nova Scotia’s presence in that market.

“I believe, and I think your listeners would agree that the best quality lobster is from Nova Scotia. We wanted to make sure that people understood that our quality is high. We want to keep it that way and we want to make sure that they know the destination that that lobster is coming from.”

While there, McNeil also hoped to have airlines create a more direct route for tourists to visit the province.

The Premier also enacted Bill 148 which sets the limits an arbitrator can award in contract negotiations between the province and its employees.

McNeil asked the Supreme Court to verify the legality of the bill.

“Ultimately the question for the court is who has the final say on how public dollars are spent? Is it the government that’s elected by the population or is it an un-elected, unaccountable arbitrator?”

The fall sitting of the legislature will begin Thursday and government’s budget will be introduced next week.

The full interview with Premier McNeil will be aired this weekend on South Shore Sunday Morning.
