Liverpool Legion Br. 38 Planning for Future

The Liverpool Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is planning for the future.

With declining membership numbers at Royal Canadian Legion Branches across the province and across the country, the Mersey Branch #038 in Liverpool is making sure that everything is in order should the Branch ever decide to close its doors.

Branch Chairman, Bill Cox, tells Acadia News should they find themselves closing down or the membership giving up its Charter, they want to ensure that the current building would not go unused.

“Most of the veterans are getting older and we just want to have things in place if at one point in time we do have to shut down,” says Cox.

At a recent Council meeting, a motion was passed giving the Region of Queens Municipality first right of acceptance / refusal for the lands and buildings of the Legion Branch should the membership choose to give up its Charter.

And there’s a lot involved in such future planning.

“We have to get permission from our members, we have to change our by-laws and also get the approval of Provincial Command and so forth,” adds Cox.

With just 200 members, Cox says they just want to make sure that there is a facility left in the community that can be for community use should the Mersey Branch cease to exist.
