Southside Road in Blue Rocks To Receive Much Needed Facelift

Blue Rocks is known to many as the Peggy’s Cove of Lunenburg County and now, a major road in and out of that area is about to receive a makeover.

A 2.37 Km stretch of Southside Rd. has approved for re-paving, through a cost sharing program with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, to the tune of $275,000.

And according to the Mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MoDL), the road is deteriorating and could use some serious attention and repairs.

“The condition of that road is very bad, these roads are in dire need of repair and we recognize that well maintained good quality roads are essential for our community,” says Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson.

Southside Rd. will see re-paving efforts beginning at Stonehurst Rd. and continuing for 2.37 Kms.

The Municipality will kick in just over $137,000 of the total cost of the project.

“It’s often being referred to as our ‘Peggy’s Cove’ in our Municipality and in the summer time it’s often well travelled by tourists near and far, not to mention the residents living in the area,” adds Bolivar-Getson.
