A plan has been approved to review municipal restructuring in Lunenburg County.
Representatives from the Municipality of Lunenburg and towns of Bridgewater, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg agreed to send the plan to each of their councils.
The public has identified concerns with amalgamation like increasing costs and the loss of community identity.
Chairperson, Rachel Bailey, says the plan will determine if amalgamation is the right choice.
“It’s one option but it’s not the only option and in order to determine what is best ultimately for our citizens, we really need to take a very careful look at the facts.”
The process is in the preliminary stage and is not expected to be complete until December 2017 when a decision on municipal restructuring will be recommended to the Utility and Review Board.
A number of public meetings are expected.
The committee will meet again on February 4 at 2:30 p.m at Lunenburg town hall.
