National Axe Throwing Championships Draws International Competition To Liverpool

Visitors to the Liverpool waterfront needed to keep their head up this weekend.

Competitors from across Canada, the US and Europe faced off at the Canadian Axe-throwing championships.

Ann-Christine Hedberg finished atop the women’s division. Tess Billings won silver and the bronze went to Suzy Atwood.

On the men’s side Udo Hofmann picked up gold, while the silver went to reigning world champion Daniel Hedberg. Pierre Kaminski picked up third place honours.

Organizer Darren Hudson says it was exciting to compete against the world’s best.

“They were off the hook. Those axe-throwers were incredible to watch. They were putting the heat on the Canadians and we loved it.”

Hudson says this year’s success has inspired them to do more.

“We showed how great of an event we can produce. Now we’re going to put the bid in for the Canadian Championships again next year, and then the World Championships isn’t until 2021.”

Hudson says they plan to bid on that as well.
