Five young men were arraigned in Bridgewater Youth Court Wednesday.
They are charged with distributing intimate images without consent and possession and distribution of child pornography.
A sixth youth had already appeared in court two weeks ago.
Charges were laid against the four 15-year-olds and two 18-year-olds in July following a 14-month investigation.
The boys allegedly shared intimate images of over twenty girls without their consent and posted them to Dropbox.
Leigh-Ann Bryson appeared for Special Prosecutions and she says the law needs to keep up with technology.
“If it is an intimate image and someone distributes it without the other party’s consent a charge can be laid. As technology changes the law has to change as well to meet that.”
Bryson says this isn’t just an issue for young people.
“These charges apply not only to child victims but to anyone, even an adult and it relates to the consent issue.”
The case is now adjourned until October 5 when all six youth will appear.
