Swimmers Headed To PEI Forced Off Course

Swimmers attempting to cross the Northumberland Strait this past weekend were forced to alter course.

High swells prevented swimmers and their support kayaks from crossing the Strait.

Neil Silver from Lunenburg was one of the swimmers.

He says organizers quickly re-routed the event.

“The organization did a great job – like, spur of the moment finding another location and getting us there safely.”

Silver says the change of course wasn’t a big deal.

“It was a little disappointing. But the big goal was to raise the money for Brigadoon, which we successfully did.”

Swimmers instead swam parallel to shore from Cape Jourimain N.B. to Murray Beach, a distance of 12.5 kilometres.

The event raised $150,000 which will be used to send 150 kids to Brigadoon Village Camp.
