The MP for Edmonton Centre recently saw the sights and sounds of Lunenburg County.
Randy Boissonnault is leading the official languages consultation process for Canada and stopped at Centre Scolaire de la Rive Sud.
He also toured the Petite Riviere winery and the Fort Point Museum in Lahave.
Boissonnault says arts and culture represents three per cent of Canada’s gross domestic product.
“So, we’re talking $54-billion. That’s more than the accommodation and tourism industry combined. And then when you take a look at the number of jobs that people in the arts and culture sector are involved in, it’s 630,000 jobs.”
Meanwhile, Canada’s 150th year of Confederation is also on Boissonnault’s mind.
He hopes Canadians get involved and celebrate the milestone in 2017, which is less than 140 days away.
“Look how far we’ve come as a country. I mean, we had four provinces when we first started in 1867 and then we had more along the way and now we go from coast-to-coast-to-coast. I think Canada is a pretty big deal.”
Boissonnault says there is still time for community organizations and non-profits to access micro grants of $15,000 or less to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
