The Shelburne Fire Department is doing more than just responding to medical calls or fires.
It has decided to offer its showers to people who have dry wells and need a place to freshen up.
A number of residents are without water due to the dry conditions this summer.
Deputy Chief Darrell Locke says they wanted to help.
“We serve the public and we thought if there was a need and we could help folks out, that’s what we’d like to do.”
The open hours are Wednesday and Sunday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m.
Locke says the fire department could open up the station on other night, depending on the need.
People can also fill water bottles or other containers and bring them home.
