Nova Scotia Schools Enjoying A Healthier Way To Raise Money

A food program is helping schools and local farmers across the province.

Nourish Your Roots is the brainchild of Nourish Nova Scotia.

Schools sell locally grown produce to raise money for their breakfast and nutrition programs.

Margo Reibe-Butts with Nourish Nova Scotia says it’s important everyone benefits from this arrangement.

“We want to make sure that the farmers get a fair price for their produce as well as the schools get a good cut. Schools get nine dollars per box.”

Reibe-Butts says that arrangement can make an immediate impact into the kid’s lives.

“I think schools really do benefit because they get to reinvest that money in something that matters, like the health of their students.”

Reibe-Butts says the program is offered in schools throughout Nova Scotia and people must sign up in advance.
