Top young singers from around the globe arrive in Lunenburg this weekend to participate in a two-week opera program.
The 3rd annual Rossini Opera Academy is held at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, a center for advanced study in performance and music interpretation located in the historic Lunenburg Academy.
Under the direction of Maestro Alberto Zedda of Italy, the program continues to attract more than 150 applicants per year.
Just 11 singers were selected.
They come from China, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Turkey, the United States and Canada.
The program’s first event takes place this Sunday at 3 p.m. and is open to the public.
That’s when each of the singers will perform for Maestro Zedda.
The Rossini Academy will wrap up with performances of the classic opera La Cenerentola — Rossini’s Cinderella — on October 1 in Lunenburg and October 2 at the Astor Theatre in Liverpool.
