Government Funds Upgrades For South Shore Legions

Visitors to legions in the South Shore will breathe a little easier.

The provincial government has just given almost $22,000 to have the washrooms renovated in Lunenburg and Mahone Bay.

Mahone Bay received $10,000 while Lunenburg got $5,400.

The money is going towards updating and and making the washrooms accessible.

The Legion in New Ross will receive $6,000 to install a heat pump.

Lunenburg MLA Suzanne Lohnes-Croft made the announcement at the Lunenburg Legion today.

Croft says volunteers are essential and these renovations will allow the legion to better service their community.

“You know our legions are so important in all these communities as our community halls. They’re vital parts of the community.”

She says this was necessary work.

“More people can come to their legions and use their facilities will be great because then they can do rentals that they weren’t able to do before because they weren’t completely accessible.”

The funding came from the Legion Capital Assistance Program which provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum of $10,000.
