VIDEO: Public Reviews Possible Locations For New Mahone Bay Nursing Home

Another full house to discuss a new nursing home facility proposed for Mahone Bay.

More than 100 people showed up at the fire hall to hear about possible locations for the $20-million project.

CEO Ramsay Duff says he’s happy to hear from the community even when they’re asking tough questions.

“Tonight had maybe a bit more edge to it, but I think the edge comes from taking ownership and wanting to make it really work for them. So I was encouraged and welcoming of it.”

One of the pressing concerns was how Duff will be able in ensure the new facility will be what the community needs.

Duff says they’re already past some of the most critical issues like keeping the facility within the town.

“We’re talking now about protecting trails and green space and maybe adding services like shuttles and daycare. I’m happy to have those discussions because, yes not everyone is going to get what they want, but we’re probably going to get better than what we have now.”

Duff says the next step is to narrow down the choices to one or two sites.

He says then they’ll begin studying traffic flow and infrastructure that will help them determine the true cost of each location.
