One chair will remain empty at the South Shore Regional School Board for the next several weeks.
Michael Stewart, the school board member elected to district three during the election in October has been disqualified.
The education act says a candidate can’t be employed by the school board during the election period.
Superintendent Scott Milner says Stewart was working as a substitute teacher while he was running.
“The elected board itself has to declare the seat vacant then a request goes to the ministers office to request a special election.”
Milner says the act allows the board to operate with one seat empty as long as a quorum is reached.
He says Stewart came forward as soon as he realized the situation.
