Bridgewater: King Street Construction Continues

The end of October deadline has come and gone but King Street in Bridgewater is still under construction.

Patrick Hirtle with the town says the new goal is to see the street re-open for two way traffic around the November 16.

He says while the recent wet weather has been a welcome sight for those with dry wells, it’s been tough on the construction schedule.

“There’s a certain sequence in which things need to be done,” he says. “We’ve been waiting for the sidewalk paving crew to come back. They’re sub-contractors so they have other work elsewhere in the province. Same with the asphalt spreading crew and then factor in a few days of bad weather and it can very quickly put you a week or two behind.”

Hirtle says new lamp posts have been installed and work on the public space has come a long way.

He says while the delay can be frustrating the project was originally expected to take more than a year.

He says crews have worked hard to keep the time frame as short as possible.

Hirtle says once the street re-opens there may still be a few delays while crews continue to work on the public space along the waterfront.

But, he says the construction will not interfere with the Christmas on the Lahave Parade.
