The dream of Rosanne Himmelman continues to live on.
This is the 10th year for the Rose Fund’s Dinner and Silent Auction, which will be held May 4 at the Oakhill Fire Hall.
Himmelman had metastatic colon cancer and died in 2005.
Her mother, Maxine, says it was during treatment when her daughter thought of creating a foundation to ease the financial burden of fellow patients who were struggling.
“She would open up her purse and give $100 bills to people who basically needed smaller things but there was no way they could get the money for them. The last few months of her life she designed the Rose Fund.”
Last year, the Rose Fund was able to fulfill 90 requests from cancer patients in Lunenburg and Queens counties.
Money has helped cancer patients buy groceries, cover travel expenses or pay heating bills.
