Lunenburg Holding Day of Mourning Ceremony

A memorial will be held in Lunenburg to honour those who have become ill, been injured or lost their lives on the job.

The Day of Mourning is held annually April 28.

However, the town will host their ceremony at noon Thursday at the Fishermen’s Memorial on Bluenose Drive.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says it’s important to raise awareness.

“It is truly a tragedy when someone is killed, injured or becomes seriously ill from their place of work,” says Bailey.

“We want to do whatever we can to mitigate the risk of that happening.”

Bailey says serious incidents continue to occur at the workplace and a brief ceremony to observe the Day of Mourning is one thing they can do in recognition of those who have been affected.
