Lunenburg Requests Funding From MODL For New Zamboni

The Town of Lunenburg has requested $40,000 from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg to help purchase a new zamboni.

The current ice resurfacer at the Lunenburg War Memorial Arena is 30 years old and is in need of repairs to its transmission and hydraulic system.

A new zamboni is estimated to cost $125,0000 and is slated to be purchased in the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

MODL Recreation Director, Trudy Payne, says as of now, they won’t provide funding this year.

“Understanding that the Town of Lunenburg was not acquiring the zamboni until next year, part of our discussion was we could look at having the discussion in that budget year as opposed to this budget year.”

However, Payne says the decision isn’t final until the municipality approves their budget May 14.

The town has $50,000 reserved and is planning to budget another $25,000 this year towards a new zamboni.
