Lunenburg County YMCA Promotes Physical Activity Through Community Challenge

Places across the country are vying to be known as Canada’s Most Active Community.

That includes Lunenburg and Queens counties.

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge goes until June 16.

People download the ParticipACTION app and track their active minutes for a chance to help their community win $150,000.

The Lunenburg County YMCA in Bridgewater will host two open house days as part of the challenge, today and June 12.

Centre Manager, Kim Roy, says all it takes is people to be active.

“Being physically active encourages health in all parts of life; mental health and physical health. It makes you feel better.”

Roy says you don’t have to be a ‘Y’ member to attend the two open houses.

She says they want to do their part.

“If they are 12 and over, they can come in for free on those two days or if they are a member they’re here anyways so why not log your points and help the community.”

The Region of Queens is also encouraging its residents to get involved.

Canada’s Most Active Community will win $150,000 from ParticipACTION while five regional winners will get $20,000 to support local physical activities.
