Local Paramedics Honoured With Long Service Awards

Nine South Shore members of Emergency Health Services have been recognized for their dedication and commitment.

Long service awards were handed out to paramedics with at least 20 years of accumulated time in land ambulance or LifeFlight service programs.

Richard Baglole of Chester Basin has put in 35 years service.

He says it’s an honour.

“It’s rewarding to see people and how grateful they are for what you do. The little things more than the big things are stand out.”

Baglole says the system is maxed and paramedics do the best they can with the resources they have.

He adds he’s surprised he’s lasted this long.

“I started it was a summer job and I just stayed. Back when I started it was a place to be until you found a real job but now it’s a career, a profession.”

Baglole says the biggest challenge is time away from family and trying to adjust to advancements in the medical field.

Eighty-four people received a medal last week during a ceremony at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax.
