Chief of Blockhouse and District Fire Department is singing the praises of her fellow firefighters.
Paula MacDonald says six departments came to assist and a further four were on standby to help knock down a house fire in Blockhouse Tuesday night.
“We do need a lot. And when we are fighting a fire there’s always departments that are good enough to go into our stations to look after things in case something else comes up.”
MacDonald says the mutual aid agreement is especially important in the bitter cold.
“Pumpers can freeze. SCBA bottles can freeze. Things can malfunction. Our cascade system froze. We had to use another department to fill bottles. There’s always definite challenges.”
MacDonald says crews arrived on scene around 8:00pm and discovered a furnace fire.
She says the fire burned between the walls.
They managed to get all occupants out safely and put the fire out in a matter of hours.
