Local Companies Awarded $25,000 Innovation Prize

A Conquerall Mills company that is developing cutting edge technology to diagnose and treat neck injuries has just won an innovation award.

Neck Tronics received $25,000 in the Spark West competition from Innovacorp and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

Neck Tronics’ Bill Smith says they’re looking forward to expanding their operation.

“We’re at a point now where we’re going to have four engineers on staff within about a month. We’ll be actually creating jobs within the community in about two months. We’re in a gear-up mode now. It’s really positive.”

Smith says they are committed to building their company on the South Shore.

“To develop this technology is great. But to actually create jobs here and develop that type of infrastructure – I think we need more companies here on the South Shore and in rural Nova Scotia doing it.”

Smith says full scale production should get underway once they finish prototype testing sometime next year.

Tenderithim of Mahone Bay also received $25,000 as part of the Spark West competition.
