Queens Ready to Celebrate Christmas on the Mersey

A popular Christmas-time festival is preparing to show its colors in Queens.

Christmas on the Mersey is back for its fourth year with a number of events including a Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, a kids craft day and holiday house tour on Saturday and the Kiwanis Christmas concert on Sunday.

Charlotte Kelly says one of the other highlights is the parade of light on Friday.

“They’re drummed with their torches towards a great fire pit. Once they get to the great fire pit, we have a pow-wow dancer from Yarmouth and he will be doing the ceremonial Grass Dance.”

Kelly says the parade of light will be followed by a grand finale.

There are also events in Charleston, Port Medway and Greenfield.

Mark Reynolds says it shows the spirit of the community.

“It’s part of the whole spirituality of coming together as a county, as a town to deal with life in a happy way.”
