RCMP Warning Of New Phone Scam

RCMP are warning people about a new telephone scam making the rounds.

Constable Jamall Gray says the latest has someone calling, claiming to be from Visa and asking for credit card information.

“These people are putting out some information there that makes it sounds like they are from Visa – as far as part of your card number. But that’s not how Visa really works.”

Gray says those numbers just identify which bank you deal with and are easily found.

He says you should never give personal details over the phone.

“If you’re concerned at all, use the number that’s on the back of your own Visa card and call customer service directly. So that you know you’re actually talking to the Visa company and not just somebody calling you.”

Constable Jamall Gray says telephone scams are always popular, but scammers seem to increase their efforts around the holidays.
