New Book Looks and Shows The History of Queens County

Queens County A History in Pictures is one of the latest books published by MacIntyre Purcell Publishing and anyone interested in the history of Queens County may want to pick it up.

One of the authors Vernon Oickle says it covers some of the earliest periods in the region’s history starting in the late 1800s.

The two other authors, Kathleen Stitt and Linda Rafuse handled the laborious task of deciding which of the 40,000 images in the archives to include.

Oickle says that although they couldn’t fit everything in the team produced what they believe is a great summary, “With such a long history we couldn’t get everything in but I think it does a good job of taking you on a journey through time in Queens.”

He says the book offers historical insights into the shipbuilding and railroads that once were mainstays of Queens culture. He says it also includes some interesting stories from the like of Babe Ruth and Liverpool boxer Terrence “Tiger” Warrington.

The book’s design follows a specific path starting in Port Medway and ending in Port Joli.

It’s now available in stores around the province as well as online.
