Today (Thursday October 29th) is the last day you’ll be able to get single use plastic bags at the stores. Effective tomorrow they’re banned. It’s a move I’m totally behind and should have happened years ago.
What I’m not ready for is one more thing to remember to bring with me to the stores. I already have a collection of 10 cloth bags which has reached that number because I always forget to bring the darned things with me. For awhile I tried to keep one or two in the trunk of the car, but they got used up when I remembered out in the parking lot that I needed some cloth bags.
Then the pandemic happened and stores wouldn’t let you use the cloth bags so I completely got out of the habit of carrying one or two in the car.
I fully believe that in a few months I’m going to have a collection of 20 cloth bags.
Or, I could go to paper bags. The manufacture of paper bags actually has a bigger environmental footprint than plastic bags. (Although in the end, they compost nicely) But they don’t have handles. Why don’t they make paper bags with twine handles? Or even cutout holes at the top to put your hands through? Now that would be a game changer for me.
So, are you going to buy paper bags from now on or are you one of those organized people who always have cloth bags in the car?
What is your game plan after today?
