Environment Canada Issues Special Weather Statement

Environment Canada says strong winds are expected on Thursday.

It says an intensifying disturbance will approach the Maritimes from the southwest on Thursday and then track across New Brunswick on Friday, giving strong southeasterly winds to the province, which may reach warning criteria.

The forecast is calling for mostly rain starting Thursday night and ending late on Friday.

Significant amounts are possible along the Atlantic coast and over Cape Breton Island.

There is a risk of large waves and storm surge on Friday to impact parts of the coast of Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada says it’s too early to predict precise impacts and areas affected, but says at this point the highest risk is for east and south facing coastlines of Cape Breton near high tide on Friday.
