Forty days past a province-imposed deadline, Bay Ferries has yet to secure a new vessel to sail from Yarmouth to Maine.
The delay effects more than tourism.
Keith Deveau transports fish and lobster to Boston.
He says truckers need to know if the new service will meet their needs.
“We need a fair size ferry that do [sic] a lot for the trucks, not one that’s going to leave trucks sitting,” he says. “A ferry in Yarmouth would be very sustainable if it were all year round and just for trucks.”
Without a reliable ferry, he says costs will rise.
Bay Ferries was tasked to have a vessel by December 13th.
There’s no indication how long the province is willing to wait.
